A Brazilian D.J. died after the stage he was performing on collapsed at the Atmosphere dance music festival in Esteio, Brazil, on Sunday.
Kaleb Freitas, who performed as D.J. Kaleb, was playing on the O Santuário Stage at the festival when it toppled. Video taken by festivalgoers and posted on social media shows the stage falling; storm clouds are visible and strong winds can be heard.
The festival, which was reportedly attended by 5,000 people, was held at the Parque de Exposições Assis Brasil in the southern region of the country. The venue confirmed Mr. Freitas’ death in a statement posted on its website.
“The undersecretary of the Parque de Exposições Assis Brasil mourns the death of D.J. and producer Kaleb Freitas, victim of a tragedy during the music festival event held on Dec. 17, 2017 in the premises of PEEAB,” the statement said.
In a statement on Facebook, the festival organizers said: “We’re sorry, we lost a friend, an artist. Our priority is to assist the wounded and their families.”
According to media reports, Mr. Freitas was struck by debris and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Some attendees were also reported to have been injured, but requests for further information were not immediately answered by the local fire department.
